Rating (Out of 4): 1
Pros: It’s fun to see some of the returning characters from the first movie. Some of the action scenes are pretty intense. Good scenes of humor scattered throughout the film.
Cons: Not much of a plot, just an excuse to string together what feels like stand-alone scenes. This movie is definitely missing the charm and screen presence of Will Smith, something it desperately needs. Jeff Goldblum seems to be simply going through the motions, and all of the quirkiness that made him fun in the first movie appears to have evaporated. The movie doesn’t even begin to get remotely exciting until three quarters of the way through. The scenes that are meant to have dramatic weight come across as overly sappy and melodramatic, and seem manipulative toward the audience. So much of this movie is a beat-by-beat retread of the first film.
