Basic Plot: Gigantic creatures know as “Kaiju” (Japanese for “strange beast”) begin emerging from the ocean floor and laying waste to cities here on Earth. The world governments decide that the best course of action is to develop huge robots to fight against this menace. It’s been working pretty good for a while, but now things are about to change…
Rating (Out of 4): 3
Pros: Some pretty cool special effects and great battle scenes between the robots and the monsters. Idris Elba does excellent work as the stoic commander. Solid supporting roles for both Charlie Day and Ron Perlman, who both just about steal the movie from their fellow actors.
Cons: After a preview of what’s to come, it takes the movie too long to get to robot/Kaiju fights. In the same vein as Independence Day, this movie has some pretty melodramatic scenes in it.
