Rating (Out of 4): 2

Pros: A great turn by James McAvoy, who takes what could have been a grandstanding, scenery-chewing role and gives it more emotional depth.  Exceptional work by the lead protagonist, Casey, by Anya Taylor-Joy.  Some great scenes of genuine tension and a suitably creepy setting.

Cons: The script goes out of its way to remind the audience that the antagonist has 23 distinct personalities, but only bothers to focus on five, leaving the others (and not even all of them) to be shown in extremely, extremely brief clips.  There is a disturbing, and quite frankly unnecessary, scene involving child molestation that could have been hinted at or alluded to instead of shown.  Due to the ages of the captives, some scenes involving them in various states of undress were uncomfortable.
