Basic Plot: A military group known as the Alpha-Omega, led by a mysterious figure known as the Colonel, is tracking down and eliminating a group super-intelligent apes hiding in the forests. After the Colonel leads a direct attack on the ape’s base, causing the deaths of several apes, including family members of their leader, Caesar, the apes decide to flee for a safer home. Caesar, on the other hand, decides to head off on his own on a quest for revenge. After being captured by the Alpha-Omega, Caesar and the rest of his tribe are forced in to slave labor, and must find a way to escape before an immanent war breaks out between the Alpha-Omega and a rival human faction.
Rating (Out of 4): 4
Pros: Andy Serkis deserves major consideration for acting awards this year, as his portrayal of Caesar, both physically and emotionally, is exceptional. The film is clearly made to be the end-point of a series, although it doesn’t completely rule out spin-offs, and what an ending! Tense and suspenseful, with great performances by both the motion capture/voice actors and their human counterparts, particularly from the Colonel Kurtz-like Woody Harrelson.
Cons: Nothing to complain about here.
