Year of Release: 2017

Genre: Action/Adventure

Related to/Remake of: xXx, xXx: State of the Union

Directed By: D.J. Caruso

Music By: Bryan Tyler and Robert Lydecker

Starring: Vin Diesel (as Xander Cage), Donnie Yen (as Xiang), Deepika Padukone (as Serena Unger), Kris Wu (as Harvard “Nicks” Zhou), Ruby Rose (as Adele Wolff), Tony Jaa (as Talon), Nina Dobrev (as Rebecca “Becky” Clearidge), Rory McCann (as Tennyson “The Torch”), Toni Collette (as Jane Marke), and Samuel L. Jackson (as Augustus Eugene Gibbons)

Basic Plot: Xander Cage, the extreme sports enthusiast recruited as a government agent in the first xXx film, is tracked down and enlisted to retrieve a device that is capable of controlling satellites in space and causing them to plummet to earth and used as warheads.  The device has been stolen by a mercenary team, and it’s up to Xander to put together his own rag-tag group of rebels in order to save the world (again).

Rating (Out of 4): 1

Pros: A few creative action scenes that take advantage of the extreme sports scene that the main character belongs to.

Cons: This movie is a total mess, made all the more difficult to sit through by a completely uninteresting “team” that accompanies our hero during his daring adventures.  Some of his crew seem to have no discernable abilities that would come in handy.  Audiences are misled by the early appearance of Samuel L. Jackson, who has roughly five minutes of combined screen time.  There is no way, and I mean NO WAY that any member of Xander Cage’s entourage could physically defeat Donnie Yen or Tony Jaa.
